This post is aimed at both photographers and couples. I have many messages from other photographers asking me how I get my photos to look the way I do. Is it my editing style or is it my shooting style? The answer to this is both and more!
In this post I am going to focus mainly on my engagement shoots and how clothing choice can really impact on an image.
Colour
Many of my lovely couples ask my opinion on what to wear on your engagement shoot and I always give them the same answer – wear something comfortable and something light in colour.
My images are very light and airy and this is why many of my couples book me to shoot their wedding so light coloured clothing really compliments this.
Dark colours also tend to show up dust and hair extremely easily so lighter colours are a saving grace in this regard.
Regarding colour shades I suggest colours that compliment each other but not too matchy matchy. Being too colour coordinated can look a bit cheesy and orchestrated so steer away from his and hers outfit options.
Style
Comfort is key!
Having your photograph taken is going to be foreign to many people so adding to your nerves by wearing an outfit you are not 100% comfortable in is something to avoid.
During your shoot I want you to be focusing on each other and not worrying that your dress is too short of your jeans are too tight.
Footwear
Before the shoot we will decide on a location together and your footwear should suit the location. If we are going to be walking through a field then heels are a no go. I do tend to take you on a bit of a walk as it gives us the opportunity to have a chat so comfortable shoes do help.
